EXP3 (2013) --- Final submission

This is my final submission of EXP3. My key concept is: Transition Spaces Create Movement.
And unfortunately, I was running out of time, so i didnt do a video for my bridge. This bridge is based on the plan and the section from ZAHA HADID's the Peak, Hongkong. My bridge followed almost the entire idea from the section below, i have rearranged the studio space and the workshop on my bridge, so that the workshop and the studios are sticking together now. For my environment, i used my second draft environment (GUILIN, CHINA) and developed it.

a view from the valley towards the bridge.

the bridge merges from the valley.

under the water, demonstrating the key word: movement. it seems like the bridge is moving as the water flowing.

a view of the front entrance of the bridge, and the photographer is standing on the elevator for students.

a view of the gallery room, also featuring the concept---transition spaces.

the theater, also featuring the construction of the bridge.

going down is the library.
the computer lab
the staff office and the research place at the top of the office.
the studio and the workplace, and yes, they are completely open.
the folly and the students' elevator.

the folly for Dean, and this is the path way for Dean to entry the bridge.

Dean's elevator.

EXP3 (2013) --- the mash up

Transition Spaces Create Movement

Movement is found in nature in every living organism. The fit and movements of our bodies within and around buildings are significantly effected by our haptic sense, by the tactile surfaces and edges we encounter. The use of the same elements or materials in a consecutive way suggests a smooth flow.Smooth surfaces invite close contact, while rough materials generate movement in wide radii around corners and more careful tentative movement through corridors. Changes of texture often signal special events and can trigger a slowing or quickening of one’s pace. Even static elements in architecture can suggest motion, as static elements could change with time and offer a sense of movement when exposed to elements such as wind, rain, or temperature.

EXP3 (2013) --- the plan and the section

I have selected the plan of the Peak by ZAHA HADID. This plan has conveyed my idea of movement, which is about the change form of the movement and the speed of movement. And therefore I used the low gradient curve to represent the slow movement and vise versa; and the spatial change also represents the variation form of the movement. The strongest red coloured horizontal line is representing the cutting line on the plan and the black one represents the bridge.

EXP 2 (2013) Final Submission

The concepts I have selected for my final submission are:
1, visionary drawings. not intellectual. ---- ERICH MENDELSOHN
2, mass productions vs mass customization. ---- NERI OXMAN

Electronic Aggregation: The mass customization is a visionary suggestion, it can lead to a much more personalised world.

So in my work, i have used texture Light-Medium-Dark to convey this idea.
the followings are the 3 textures:
Light--- this is a texture used on the bodies of the monument, the triangles are randomly arranged, which illustrate the concept of customization.

Medium--- this is a texture used on the walk ways, the random patterns are to reinforce the idea of customization, this kind of drawings are suggested as the visionary drawings.

Dark--- this is a texture used on the supports of the monument, the idea of visionary drawings is demonstrated by the composition of the white and black, and also the idea of the customization is also illustrated by the openings on the support.

early morning, also featuring the location of the monument.
having a walk beside the waterfall, the gap between the two stones has brought the view of the monument close to the viewer.
standing on the monument and observing the land, featuring the use of material for the monument -- concrete.
a view from under the water, featuring the openings on the support. the monument seems like "flowing" with the waterfall, this suggests the monument is combined with the surrounding environment, this also demonstrates the idea of customization, which it is unique and not the same, just like the "unstable" monument.
standing on the second level, featuring the contrast of light and dark.
a view at 9:00pm from the sea level.
night walk along the waterfall, featuring the entry of the monument.
standing on the monument at 9:pm, featuring the light and dark in the night time.

a view from the ground level of the monument towards the top of the support, also featuring the use of concrete.
